Admissions Policy

Sherford Vale School and Nursery is a member of the Westcountry Schools Trust which is responsible for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission to our Nursery and the main school.

The admissions arrangements detailed on this webpage apply to Sherford Vale School. Westcountry Schools Trust (WesT) are the Admissions Authority.

If you are interested in your child attending Sherford Vale School and Nursery, you are welcome to come in and visit us. You can arrange a visit by calling Mrs Biggs on 01752 891795 or by emailing admin@sherfordvaleschool.co.uk

If you decide you would like a place in our Nursery, in Foundation, or at any other time, you must apply.

If you have any questions about your child joining Sherford Vale Years Foundation - Year 6 or just about the admissions process in general, please don’t hesitate to contact us direct or contact Devon School Admissions Service on 01392 383000 or you can email admissions@devon.gov.uk. There is general information about school admissions at Devon County Council website.

Click on the links below to view our Admissions Policies and the Supplementary Information Form to be used only if you believe there are exceptional needs for your child to attend this school.

If we are unable to offer you a place when you have applied, there is a right of appeal to a body that is independent of the school. Further information about the appeals process can be found on the Devon County Council website.

Appeals at the normal round of admissions to Foundation for September will be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals at the end of May. Where the application was not made in time for a decision to be made in April, they will be heard within that 40 day period or, if that is not possible, within 30 days of the appeal being lodged. In-year admission appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Nursery: currently, there is space for 30 children in each Nursery session and there are 30 places available in Foundation. For the main school, children are offered places to start in Foundation at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday. Children who are admitted to a vacancy at any time after this point are called 'In-Year' Admissions.

School: our school admission arrangements comply with the School Admissions Code and School Admissions Appeals Code.

You can find our admissions policies below - we review the school policy annually and may make changes if we feel this would be in the best interests of the school and our community.

There is a different admissions policy for each academic year.

Please note the following amendments were made to policy after determination:

2022-23

The following amendments were made in August 2021 to comply with the revised School Admissions Code 2021: priority for children adopted from state care outside England was added to oversubscription criterion 1; wording added to reflect that decisions on in-year admissions must be sent to a parent within 15 school days; provision added for Hard to Place children; advice added regarding applications for overseas children; reference to UK service personnel being a vulnerable category of children in the Devon In-Year Fair Access Protocol removed.
