Intent
At Sherford Vale, we aspire to inspire all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.
Our aim is to allow all children equal opportunities within curriculum PE, extracurricular clubs and competition to develop and sustain both a physical and mental wellbeing essential for life. We aim to promote a love of sport and physical activity, thus inspiring fitness for life.
Implementation
PE develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. These include dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and water safety, athletics and outdoor adventure activities. PE promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills, and it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, we enable the children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.
We provide opportunities for children to;
The National Curriculum provides a structure for the PE curriculum being taught and reflects a balanced programme of study. It will ensure that all pupils:
To supplement our teaching of PE, we are an Argyle partnership school and use Arena for well-being and enrichment days. We also take part in local community events within our Trust, and further afield, for interschool competition.
Throughout the year, we carry out intra-school competitions, including cross school football, mini lunchtime tournaments and our School Sports Day. We also provide extracurricular clubs for all children, including: football, gymnastics, invasion games, athletics, tennis, cricket, rounders and netball.
All of our children take part in Wild Tribe and Forest school activities, ensuring that a wide range of enriching activities are embraced while making the most of our wonderful Forest School dedicated area.
Impact
All children are given the opportunity to feedback at the end of each lesson and session to share new learning and how they feel they have progressed, as well as regular pupil voice opportunities throughout the year.
The love of sport is demonstrated by our high attendance at our extracurricular clubs and children are offered and provided with pathways into different sports outside of school.
We celebrate children's sporting success both in and out of school through our celebration assemblies and also our nominations of our 'Sherford Sports Star' which is promoted weekly.
Through this, we are confident that we are achieving our aim to promote a love of sport and physical activity, thus inspiring a future generation with a love and understanding of the importance of fitness for life.
