Admissions Policy

Sherford Vale School and Nursery is a member of the Westcountry Schools Trust which is responsible for the admissions policies and decisions on applications for admission to our Nursery and the main school.

The admissions arrangements detailed on this webpage apply to Sherford Vale School. Westcountry Schools Trust (WesT) are the Admissions Authority.

There is general information about school admissions at Devon County Council website.

Click on the links below to view our Admissions Policies and the Supplementary Information Form to be used only if you believe there are exceptional needs for your child to attend this school.

If we are unable to offer you a place when you have applied, there is a right of appeal to a body that is independent of the school. Further information about the appeals process can be found on the Devon County Council website.

Appeals at the normal round of admissions to Foundation for September 2022 will be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals on 31 May 2022. Where the application was not made in time for a decision to be made on 16 April 2022, they will be heard within that 40 day period or, if that is not possible, within 30 days of the appeal being lodged. In-year admission appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.

Nursery: currently, there is space for 30 children in each Nursery session and there are 30 places available in Foundation. For the main school, children are offered places to start in Foundation at the beginning of the September term after their fourth birthday. Children who are admitted to a vacancy at any time after this point are called 'In-Year' Admissions.

School: our school admission arrangements comply with the School Admissions Code and School Admissions Appeals Code.

You can find our admissions policies below - we review the school policy annually and may make changes if we feel this would be in the best interests of the school and our community.

There is a different admissions policy for each academic year.

We will publish a proposed policy for 2024-25 here from 1 November 2022 until 6 January 2023 for consultation, inviting comments for our Proposed 2024-25 admissions policy. A final policy will be determined by the academy trust in February 2023 and will be published here by 15 March 2023.

For further information about the annual admissions and transport policy consultation and how to respond, please go to Devon County Council consultation webpages
