Sherford ValeSchool

General Information

Our nursery is open to children from the term of their third birthday and we believe it is the ideal preparation for those children who will continue on through their primary education at Sherford Vale School.

The nursery is overseen by a specialist early years practitioner who is part of the wider staff team and the curriculum we offer is designed to meet the needs of all children up to the age of five; in keeping with the National Early Years Curriculum guidelines.

This is achieved through weekly joint planning and times of shared working across the Foundation / Nursery areas.

Priority will be given to voucher holders for the nursery in the first instance.  Additional sessions will then be allocated depending on availability.  Please note that these remaining places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Further information relating to the nursery will accompany this information if you have expressed a particular interest in your child joining it.

We can also accept payment on line, details of how to do this will                  appear on your bill.

Dropping off and collection of children

This will take place from the nursery entrance to the left of the main reception at Sherford Vale School.

In the nursery there is a waiting area for parents; children will also hang their coats and leave their belongings in this area. This area is where you will also collect your child at the end of their session.

If your child is staying for lunch they may bring their own packed lunch or can choose to have a school dinner. School dinners can be ordered on a daily basis; menus will be sent home or displayed in the reception area for the nursery.

Children may wear their own clothes to the nursery but you may also wish to purchase a Sherford Vale School sweatshirt or t-shirt to wear on top of/over their own clothes. You will be notified when they are available, after which you will be able to purchase them from our uniform provider The Schoolwear Shop, 105 Mayflower Street, Plymouth, PL1 1SD.  You can contact them directly on 01752 252025.

A mid-morning snack and a mid-afternoon snack will be provided for the children. This will include a drink (milk or water) and a healthy snack; normally a piece of fruit.

Water bottles

We encourage children to keep hydrated by drinking regularly. Please provide your child with a water bottle and label it with your child’s name.

Wellington boots

As part of our curriculum we provide children with plenty of opportunities to play outside. We would ask that you provide your child with a pair of wellies for use in the outdoor area.

Please peg the wellies together and label them with your child’s name.

The wellies can be left in the Nursery on a permanent basis.

Spare change of clothes

Please could you provide your child with a spare change of clothes everyday including pants and socks. During the summer months, children will also require a hat.

A notice board is located in the reception/cloak room area of the nursery. Here you will find up-to-date information that you may require.  All information is also available via our Facebook and Twitter links.

Please do not hesitate to ask any of the nursery staff if you have any further questions at any time.

Intimate Care

If your child is using nappies when he/she starts nursery, please discuss this with the nursery staff.

Parents are asked to supply nappies and wet wipes on a daily basis. A record is kept when the child is changed during the nursery session. Once it is appropriate to begin toilet training please discuss this with nursery staff.
